Solution

Change the permissions of you're images folder recursively to 755 or 777 (Not advisable) by using the following Linux Command: chmod -R images 755 imagesĀ

  • Umar - Where to....
where am i suppose to write & run this command..
  • TechPortal - Where to run the command
You need to have shell access in order to run that command. If you do not have
shell access please ask your host to give you the permissions.

There is another method if you are using CPANEL?
  • Nick - Hrm... Might work in some cases, but not in mine
I've already tried changing the permissions. I've got other installations on the
same server that work without issue, but then I have two installations that
    refuse to.

Can't update config: "An Error has occurred! Unable to open
    configuration.php file to write!"

Can't install extensions: "JFolder::create: Could not create directory
    Warning! Failed to move file."

Can't update with the media manager: "Warning: Failed to move file!
    Error. Unable to upload file."
  • TechPortal - Try the following
For this issue "JFolder::create: Could not create directory
Warning! Failed to move file." visit www.techportal.co.za/joomla/joomla-tutorials/82...

Did you try changing the permissions for configuration.php to 777? And change
the permissions for the image folder to 777 recursively?

If you have tried, the ownership could be wrong, then try something like this
    Code:
    chown apache:apache images -R
  • Nicholas - Not a good idea
I wouldn't suggest changing the config file's permissions to 777.
  • Eva Muhatia - code
where do i change this code?
  • dario - * Warning: Failed to move file!
What the windows iusers have to do!
  • TechPortal - @dario - Windows Users
I'm not an expert with Windows, but what I'll suggest is make sure the
folder/files aren't read only, right click properties

It's not a good practice, but for testing purposes it could be done, one should
just remember to change it to something like 444 when done with testing etc.
  • Anonymous - Worked for Me
My recommendation is to set FTPenable to '0' via terminal session in the
configuration.php file. Then chmod the images and config file to 775. Then
re-enable the FTPenable. Worked for me.
